HELICOPTER RESCUE

Due to the considerable distances that have to overcome in offshore emergency situations, time plays a major role. It is therefore important to reach the patient as quickly as possible and deliver treatment within the timeframes critical for patient survival. The helicopters used (Eurocopter AS 365 N3 / EC 155 B1) boast the latest technology and modern emergency medical equipment such as monitors, ventilators, ultrasound, mechanical CPR device, etc.

The offshore rescue station in the North Sea is located in St. Peter-Ording. For the Baltic Sea region, a rescue helicopter is stationed in Güttin on the Island Rugia. Both stations are staffed 24/7 with a flight and medical crew and ensure short flight times to the wind farms. In the event of a technical failure of one helicopter, an equivalent replacement is always on stand-by.

THE CREW

Our crew always includes the following professionals:

• two pilots 
• hoist operator
• paramedic (trained in water and height rescues)
• emergency physician (trained in height rescues)

All of the emergency physicians employed in our offshore air rescue teams have above-average experience in emergency and intensive medical treatment and, in addition to the offshore service, actively participate in emergency medicine ashore. Their specialist status (Facharztstatus) on the one hand and active work in hospitals and ERs in hospitals on the other hand ensure that all procedures of modern emergency medicine are safely mastered. The emergency physicians are coordinated by the Klinikum Oldenburg, the emergency paramedics by Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe.
